Sean Corr, Empire Racing, LLC, and Pocono Raceway to Honor Fallen Hero
(MOORESVILLE, NC) July 29, 2012 Sean Corr, of Goshen, NY, and officials at Empire Racing announced today that they will partner with Pocono Raceway in paying tribute to a fallen hero, Staff Sgt. Justin R. Whiting, who lost his life during his third tour of duty. The Pennsylvania Mountains 125 on August 4th will mark Sean's debut in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
"It is an honor to be able to do something to say thank you to Staff Sgt. Justin Whiting, his family, and our members of the military who have sacrificed for our country. It is a small gesture to make sure that we remember our heroes. We tested at Nashville in preparation for this coming weekend's Pocono race, and feel confident in the set- up of the truck and the Roush-Yates Engine. We are looking forward to our NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start at Pocono" stated Corr.
Staff Sgt. Justin R. Whiting, 27, was killed in action January 19, 2008 on his third tour of duty in Iraq when his vehicle was struck by an IED while conducting combat operations. A Green Beret, he was a Special Forces medical sergeant assigned to Company B, 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group Airborne. A highly decorated soldier, Whiting's awards and decorations include two Bronze Star medals, the Meritorious Service medal, two Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, two Army Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, two Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbons, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Medical Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Special Forces Tab.
Along with American Heroes Racing, Corr and Empire Racing will host 8 members of Whiting's unit from Ft. Campbell, and Pocono Raceway will be including them as part of their pre-race activities for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Pennsylvania Mountains 125. Tribute for LCPL Joshua Klinger at Pocono Raceway.
Sean Corr was impressive as always today in Pocono at the ARCA event!!! We have been put in a box on the horsepower side of things by rules we have no control over, and he was out there running down cars with 30+ HP more than we had to offer. Ben made some great calls, and the Empire Racing team was pulling through and even pulling off stops like the garages on the other end of pit road could do!!! Sean had a serious shot at the top 5, and had EASILY a top 7 car ALL day!!! Impressive with what we had to work with in the rule department! Faulty equipment with 3 to go cost us about 5 spots, but Sean and the team kept their composure and brought home the #82 in one piece with no major problems!
It TRULY is an honor to work with such a GREAT team!!! We have accomplished more in the last 3 months than I ever dreamed, and I am so STOKED to see what's next!!!
Phil, Sharon, and all of Joshua Klinger's family were extremely happy with the program, and it was an honor to run LCPL Klinger's photo on the hood and to host his family and friends at the track!!!
Sean, JC, Uncle John, JB, Grace, Aunt Cathy, and the WHOLE Empire crew... THANK YOU!

Klinger died on June 14, 2005 as a result of an explosion from an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations against enemy forces near Fallujah, Iraq. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
To honor PFC Klinger, we will be carrying a "hero shot" photograph of PFC Klinger on the hood of the Ford Fusion Empire Racing LLC #82 ARCA entry that is driven by Sean Corr. "Empire Racing started this tribute campaign along with American Heroes Racing at Talladega," said Corr. "We are honored that Joshua's family is letting us pay tribute to an American Hero."
Nick Igdalsky and Pocono Raceway will be hosting PFC Klinger's family for the weekend. "We can't thank Nick enough for supporting a local military hero," said Empire Racing Team Manager, John Bellesfield. "PFC Klinger and I are from the same hometown of Easton, Pennsylvania, and this is just another way of recognizing our Military and the sacrifices they make each and every day."
Empire Racing LLC and American Heroes Racing will host members of PFC Klinger's family as honorary pit crew members for the ARCA Pocono 200. Upon the conclusion of the race, Klinger's family will be presented with a hood replica of the #82 Ford Fusion.
